Pena Adobe Open House Receives Great Public Response
The Historical Society initiated its first monthly open house of the Pena Adobe and Mowers-Goheen Museum on Saturday, February 2. The inagural event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., was considered a success as the open house drew thirty-three visitors in spite of an all-day rain.
Those who had the opportunity to view the buildings spoke very highly of the effort of the Society, and were excited by the opportunity to step inside the historic adobe and nearby museum.
The following month, Saturday, March 1, anxious visitors were waiting at the doors for Pena Adobe Historical Society (PAHS) members to open the adobe. Plenty of sunshine helped bring a constant flow of guests as eighty-four adults and children enjoyed the historic site.
Saturday, April 5, the open house was joined by members of the Rush Ranch Educational Council (see Rush Ranch story below) who provided arrowhead making demonstrations and other Native American artifacts. The combined attractions drew an overwhelming crowd of onehundred and fifty people. While dozens of children circled the arrowhead demonstration, adults enjoyed the adobe and museum.
PAHS will continue to open the doors of the adobe and museum the first Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Tell your friends and neighbors. Members interested in voluteering at the Saturday event are welcome. Call the Historical society office at 707-447-0518.
