Peña Adobe Celebrates Hispanic Heritage!

Seven Peña Adobe Historical Society volunteers welcomed 178 park visitors to celebrate “Hispanic Heritage at Peña Adobe” on Saturday, May 2nd.
Fifth generation Peñas, Darlene Coombs Stewart led tours of the Adobe She was joined by John Stevens of Vallejo, another fifth generation Peña! Native American docents Armando Perez and James Tunstall led tours in the Museum while docents Melody Johnston and Tammy Vasquez using calf roping dummies, helped children with their roping skills as the Vaqueros did when the Peñas raised cattle in the Vaca Valley over one hundred eighty five years ago!
The Willis Jepson Middle School Mariachi band, “El Mariachi Los Jaguares de Willis Jepson” led by Mr. Cabada kicked off the entertainment and played several numbers for everyone to enjoy. Guests also included the dancers of “Ballet Folklorico Canela”. Founder Abigail Hernandez, has led these talented dancers for over 13 years. Sharing their talent, 24 of Abigail ‘s students from as young as 4yrs old, performed traditional Mexican ballet folklorico dances. Whipmaster Francisco Pulido from Rancho El Zapotillo in Dixon concluded the performance, sharing his roping skills with his horse Brownie. Refreshments were available from ‘Churros my Heart”. While churros originated in Spain, everyone enjoyed the tasty treats now associated with Mexico.
