Peña Adobe Welcomed Northern California Bats & JnW Reptile Rescue
Park Visitors learn about bats from Northern California Bats' Corky Quirk
It was all bats and reptiles on Saturday, September 6th, as the Peña Adobe Historical Society greeted 214 park visitors and guests at our monthly open house at Peña Adobe!
Joe Lam and Wendy Rozonewski founders of JnW Reptile Rescue shared the important work they do rescuing and caring for reptiles. Their python, Lemon Blast and a bearded dragon were just a couple of the reptile ambassadors on hand to visit with Peña Adobe Park visitors. Corky Quirk from NorCal Bats brought a variety of Northern California bats for park visitors to see and answered the many questions from young park visitors about these often-misrepresented animals.
The Vacaville Jammers provided music while the Solano County Master Gardeners shared information about native plants and gardening. Peña Adobe Historical Society members included 5th generation Peña descendant Darlene Peña Coombs who shared stories of her family, one of the first settlers here in Vacaville and the builders of the Peña Adobe in 1842. Tammy Vasquez and Armando Perez led tours in the Mowers-Goheen Museum and James Tunstall shared his Native American Heritage.
