Happy 80th Birthday Smokey Bear!
Smokey Bear's 80th Birthday Party!
Park visitors who braved the heat to celebrate Smokey Bears’ 80th birthday, visited with Cal Fire Capt, Chase Edwards, firefighters Alfredo and Brandon. Since 1905, the men and women of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) have continued their dedication to serve and safeguard the people, property and resources of California. Joining Cal Fire were Vacaville Fire Protection District Capt Mark Helsel and firefighter Emily Walk and Daniel August. Young park visitors learned all about fire protection, received red fire hats and stickers. The youngsters even participated in fire hose training!
Vacaville Park Ranger James Tanner introduced Smokey Bear who welcomed park guests and posed for pictures!
Park Docents conducted tours of the Peña Adobe and Museum. Visitors chatted with 5th generation Peña descendant, Darlene Coombs Stewart. Darlene talked about her great great grandfather, Juan Felipe Peña, who built the Peña Adobe in 1842.
From the City of Vacaville, Melody and Aurora shared the Vacaville Arts and Culture Master Plan with “Weaving Our Future,” a community art workshop.
No party is complete without music, the Vacaville Jammers provided happy tunes and everybody had birthday cake!
Happy Birthday Smokey!
