Peña Adobe Celebrates Hispanic Heritage in honor of Cinco de Mayo!

The Peña Adobe Historical Society greeted 107 park visitors and guests on Saturday, May 3rd as we celebrated Hispanic Heritage in honor of Cinco de Mayo!
Guests included the dancers of Son Dé Metztli Grupo Folklorico! Founded by Karina Barragan in Vallejo, Son Dé Metztli performed traditional Mexican ballet folklorico dances. Returning to Peña Adobe for the second time this year, the Willis Jepson Middle School Mariachi band, El Mariachi Los Jaguares de Willis Jepson, led by Mr. Cabada played several numbers for everyone to enjoy. Later El Mariachi Los Jaguares de Willis Jepson, joined whipmasters Alias, Gary and Francisco Pulido from Rancho El Zapotillo in Dixon as they performed their roping skills with their horses Brownie and Osso.
Docent Greg Schwei, portraying early Vacaville resident and California’s most distinguished botanist, Willis Linn Jepson, led nature walks pointing out the native flora and fauna of Solano County. 5th generation Peña descendent Darlene Peña Coombs demonstrated how to make corn husk dolls. Native American docents Armando Perez and James Tunstall shared their Native American heritage and new volunteer Melody Johnson led tours of the Peña Adobe.
