Peña Adobe Historical Society Visits Local Libraries
Peña Adobe Historical Society docents Armando Perez and James Tunstall at the Dixon Library!
In celebration of Native American Heritage month, the Peña Adobe Historical Society visited the Vacaville Townsquare and Dixon Library to share the history of the local Patwin Native Americans who lived here long before the Vacas and Peñas arrived in 1841.
Library visitors had an opportunity to play a drum and clapsticks made by Peña Adobe Historical Society member and Native American James Tunstall. He was joined by Native American docent Armando Perez who shared his story as a youth living on an Indian Reservation while Darlene Stewart, a 5th generation Peña, helped children make corn husk dolls and everyone had a chance to try a Native American Pump Drill using shells to form necklaces.
It was all in celebration of Native American Heritage Month! Since August 3, 1990, each November, Native people in the United States of America share their culture, traditions, music, crafts and dance in honor of Native American Heritage Month!
